Enjoy a Virtual Visit to PARIS.

Fall is one – if not THE – best times to visit the city of lights. Since we can’t stroll the Champs Elysées this year, please join me to enjoy a virtual visit to PARIS. The best virtual tours in Paris.

We’re so fortunate that there are some amazing virtual tours of Paris that we can visit from the comfort of home. {In pj’s – chic ones – if you wish.} I hope you grab a croissant and a cafe au lait and join me for some French cultural fun.

Virtual Paris Tours:

THE LOUVRE

The Louvre is the largest museum in the world. It’s really one of the jewels of the city.  Well known for that magnificent glass pyramid, it has the former Royal Residence as its backdrop. You can see what’s left of the Louvre Moat, visit the Egyptian Antiquities display, or view the magnificent ceilings of the ornate Galerie d’Apollon.

CHATEAU DE VERSAILLES

Technically Versailles is just outside Paris, but once you are in Paris, a day trip to the Château of Versailles is a must do.  One of the most stunning palaces in the world, it began as a royal hunting lodge and was completely transformed by the Sun King himself, Louis XIV.

Your  virtual visit to Versailles will allow you to stroll through the Hall of Mirrors, be amazed at Marie Antoinette’s floral bedroom, and virtually stroll through the Hall of Mirrors, and visit the royal chapel.  Versailles really has enough to do on their virtual site that it’s almost like being there!  Lots of fun historical facts, how to dress like a royal, a garden tour, go inside the royal opera, and much more! This is definitely worthwhile and super fun.

THE MUSEE d’ORSAY

The Musée d’Orsay is one of the most iconic museums in Paris, situated in a former train station. On the banks of the Seine, this is where Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night is at home.  The virtual visit allows you to see the art works at the Musee up close, and you can learn about the history of the museum.

MUSEE de L’ORANGERIE

The Jardin des Tuileries is a destination spot, more so since in the very middle of it is the Musée de l’Orangerie.  The museum has two levels, and there are so many beautiful artworks there to see. The most famous is the surprisingly HUGE Waterlilies by Monet.  You can see this large scale wonder in the virtual tour, and dream of Monet’s garden.

THE PARIS CATACOMBS

Certainly one of the most unusual places to visit in Paris, the Paris Catacombs are under the 14th arrondissement. With an interesting history that begins in the late eighteenth century, when major public health problems tied to the city’s cemeteries led to a decision to transfer their contents to an underground site. Twenty meters underground in a maze of galleries, you can discover an ossuary containing the remains of several million Parisians. This unique site recalls the history of these Parisians and invites visitors to take a timeless journey.

By clicking on the History tab on the website, you’ll get a walking tour (a little macabre but very interesting!)

THE MUSEE DES ARTS DECORATIFS

I love visiting the Musee des Arts Decoratifs Fashion Collection.  You can get really really close to the sumptuous fabrics and details of the gowns and men’s wear that were part of the “a la française” fashion style .  Under Louis XIV, in the second half of the 17th century, a true artistic policy was put in place in France which benefited fine arts such as applied arts. French classicism was a model that was emulated throughout Europe. The golden age of French decorative arts became even more evident in the 18th century with the new Regence, Rococo and neoclassic styles. All the elegant Europeans dressed “à la française”.

I hope you have enjoyed this tour of Paris.  The virtual tours as well as the many other informational readings, collections and beautiful art to see in these virtual tours are a delight.

Once your croissant and cafe au lait are gone, you might want to come back with a glass of merlot later on in the evening, play some French music and Enjoy a Virtual Visit to PARIS!

One silver lining of this lockdown is finding out about sources like this! Thanks for sharing Lidy. Your fall photos of France are even prettier!

    1. Donna, I agree, this is a silver lining. So many places have superb virtual tours these days. wishing you a beautiful Monday!

  3. Lidy, thank you for the tour. I’ve been to all the places except Mussee des Arts and the catacombs.
It was fun to remember my visit through your blog post today.
    I do miss traveling.

    1. Bonnie, I haven’t been to the catacomb tour in real life either, it’s a little macabre, isn’t it? But so interesting. I miss traveling too, but how fun that we can visit these places virtually!

  4. Lidy, thanks so much for this virtual trip to Paris. Just what I need since I can’t go in person at this crazy time. It will be wonderful to travel freely again!

  5. I’ve been to most of these wonderful places but not the catacombs. I’ll have to check that tour out — looks like a good one. And maybe even revisit some of my old favorites. Maybe in another year or so, I’ll feel OK to go in person again.

  6. Jeanie, I haven’t been either, but it does look so interesting, doesn’t it?

    1. Jean, thank you so much for your visit! It is fun, isn’t it, to relive our visits {or go for the first time} to these French websites. You may not be able to visit in person this year, but virtually they are also a treat for almost all the senses.
