Bonjour Friends! May is my favorite month, when the air hums with the promise of floral beauty, and the garden is bursting with vibrant colors and delicate fragrances. It's always a joy to join all of you flower loving friends, today we're sharing Blooming Sentiments: Celebrating Mother's Day.
Welcome to the May edition of Monday Morning Blooms!
Pam, Mary and I are excited to welcome back our friend Jennifer of Celebrating Everyday Life as our special guest. I know you will love her as much as we do, you'll find links for Pam, Mary, and Jennifer at the bottom of this post.
In memory of my Mom, I set my little round French bistro table on the lawn. My mom, who was born in Holland, loved nothing more than to be in our garden in spring. Every spring, as the flowers, and especially the roses she loved, bloom, I think even more about her and am so grateful God chose her to be my mom.
As the gentle warmth of spring kisses our garden, it's a wonderful time to host little gatherings in the garden. Our roses began blooming a few weeks ago. The lace cascade, a white climber, is really doing well this year. {see it in the second photo up from here^}
I kept the table really simple, using a white sheet underneath, I layered these favorite ruffled linen place mats on top like petals of a big flower. My Mom's favorite color was blue, oh how she would have loved this setting!
My mom was wonderful, but she really didn't have the gift of hospitality. I like to think I inherited my love of entertaining from my grandmother, who loved gatherings of all sizes and really shone at giving parties!
I think she would have loved this little table, simply set with the ruffled placemats, those stunning linen napkins embroidered with bees, the hand painted Limoges plates and flowers arranged in alarge urn with beautiful bocage flowers.
The flowers were chosen in the colors of the bocage flowers on the urn, pink roses, blue grape hyacinths, white hydrangeas and those incredible carnations. Their dual colors are gorgeous, aren't they?
In choosing the flowers for this arrangement, I looked at the flowers applied to the urn, but also the language of flowers. This bouquet is especially fitting for Mother's Day!
The Victorians, with their penchant for romance and intricate social codes, gave each flower a specific meaning, so that you could combine flowers to send a message. Pink Roses were a symbol of love, expressing gratitude and admiration. Carnations in pink, ruffled beauties, traditionally symbolize a mother's love. And hydrangeas represent gratitude and heartfelt emotions.
Just as each flower carries a unique meaning, so too does every antique hold a story, a whisper of the past. The hand painted Limoges plates each have a different pink floral story on them.
An antique White ironstone footed dish holds lemon scones and blueberries.
Vintage gold rimmed glasses are ready for when we open the bottle of rose, also in memory of my Mom, she loved rose!
No Mother's Day celebration is complete without the enchanting presence of flowers. Their vibrant colors and delicate fragrances convey emotions that words sometimes cannot.
Happy Mother's Day!

I spired a little birds’ nest near the beautiful urn. A perfect little dear nest and surely there is a little mom about to perch on the egg and keep it warm. Oh what fun!

Oh Lidy, this is such a tender and beautiful tribute to your mother. 🌸 The symbolism in each bloom—the pink roses for love and admiration, those ruffled carnations representing a mother’s love, and the hydrangeas expressing heartfelt gratitude—so special. You’ve woven not just flowers, but meaning and memory into this table, and it’s simply exquisite. The vintage china, that charming urn, and even the sweet little nest… every detail feels so intentional and soulful. And your yard looks beautiful too. I’m incredibly honored to be blooming alongside you today. What a gift this post is. 💕🌿

Dear Lidy, love the setting in your stunning garden.
What kind of flowers are the ruffled ones? They look like carnations,if so I haven’t seen this variety before.

Pam, aren’t those ruffled carnations so wonderful? I’ve never seen ones in this color, I’m looking to see if I can source a plant or two for our garden. Thank you for visiting, it’s always a blessing to share our love of flowers. Xo Lidy

Good morning, Lidy! I love your setting in the garden with the lace cascade roses and foxgloves in the background. Layering the ruffled placemats to mimic petals is a lovely idea. Wow, the hand-painted Limoges plates and the large urn with bocage flowers are stunning! The arrangement is beautiful and the carnations are truly incredible. Your bouquet is perfect with the flowers applied to the urn. It is interesting to read how the Victorians gave each flower a specific meaning. It is always a treat to join you for flower therapy and our Monday Morning Blooms. Happy Mother’s Day, Lidy 💗

Good morning Lidy, What a beautiful setting in your gorgeous garden… I’m not familiar with your lace cascade, what a stunner! I love your mix of blooms in your urn, especially those ruffly edges of your two-tone carnations. Your hand painted Limoges plates are beauties as is your urn with its pastel painted relief on the sides. As always, it’s a joy to share some flower therapy with you. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead and Happy Mother’s Day celebration with your family. 🌸 💗
