Our Garden Update

Our Garden Update
Some of you who follow me on Instagram might remember that just before our Stay At Home order began, we started re-doing our back garden. Luckily, garden contractors can still work here in California, so our garden is actually in place by now. I though you might enjoy seeing a few very beginning shots of Our Garden Update. This first shot is the view from our side yard walkway, towards the deck. The workers had just placed the black drainage tray in the border for the fountain and weighed it down with two cinder blocks. The side yard is planted with Polygalas, also called sweet pea shrubs, because they flower so beautifully in bright pink. Showy Clivia Miniatas 'San Marcos Yellow" add drama to this area, and white Camelias for their beauty and 3 season blooming ability. This is the fountain in place and running. I love the bubbling sound it makes! A white Star Jasmine vine was planted behind the fountain after I took this photo, so that the fence will be covered with green and beautiful white fragrant flowers. We are planning on adding lots of flowers to this area, just as soon as we are released from our strict "stay at home" orders. :) The borders in the main part of the garden have been planted with schefflera along the fences for a lush green backdrop. The boxwoods will create a low hedge around each plot which were filled with alstroemeria, French Lavenders, Dorantas, and pink Salvias. Here is the view once the sod was down. What a difference! It's going to take a while for the garden to be lush and green like it was before, but we're very happy with the refresh. We can't wait to work in the garden and add more plants! The sun is beginning to make a daily appearance here at FrenchGardenHouse. It's one of my favorite times of year, yours too? I can't wait to plant, and plan gatherings in the garden soon...very soon I hope. This week I've added lots of gardening antiques to our FrenchGardenHouse online shop. I hope you love them! Because garden antiques make your garden look more authentically French, and they can transform your inside home decor too! Thank you for joining us for Our Garden Update! I'm excited to see what the garden will look like once it's grown a little bit. Pop over and take a peek, maybe there is something waiting for you there that will lift your spirits and bring the beauty and charm of the garden inside!

what a lovely garden you’re creating. I adore the sounds of a bubbling fountain, so relaxing. We’re having torrential rain & hot temps even though April is our cool, dry month here in coastal FL so I may miss out completely on gardening this year. Our son said 30 min of gardening a day adds 20 years to your life so he’s going to enlist his dad to help him build a raised garden bed area for me during this sheltering at home time. He lost his job so spends the weekdays here with us.

Oh, Lidy that is a beautiful refresh! I love the fragrant plants you’ve added – the jasmine, sweet pea, lavender, and you’ll also have some alstroemeria for flower arranging! Very, very nice and tranquil.

Oh, Shannon, you are so lucky to have been able to get some new plants. I think our nurseries offer curb side pick up too…I’m going to check up on that. I agree, being in the warm sun and in the garden does make everything better!

Thank you so much Sandra. It has been a slow start here as well, with yesterday being the first day of all day sun. But I’ll cherish any spring day I can get! The lilacs blooming, that is always so beautiful! wishing you a gorgeous day and weekend, too, friend. xo

Lidy, your gardens are lovely. And, you will have such enjoyment in planting them with more gorgeousness. Your fountain is so pretty and I know it certainly calms the soul with its sound.
Spring is taking her time in arriving to our mountains. It has been quite chilly with considerable rain. But, the lilacs are in bloom so I am a happy girl. Wishing you a lovely day and weekend. Be well.

Lidy, your gardens are looking just beautiful! I know you must enjoy them so much. We have been doing a little bit of gardening. Some of our local nurseries are offering curbside service. We were able to pick up some azaleas, salvia, and mulch last week. I have also planted some heirloom tomatoes in pots, and put Zinnia seeds in the ground. Being in the warm sun and gardening just makes everything better! Take care, and enjoy your day, sweet friend!

Can’t plant until May 15th due to frost, but one of my greatest joys is working in the garden. Going to the garden center to find the plants I love might not happen but I can always hope. We were suppose to start renovating The front stairs in March, getting new front door and new floors. All came to a scritching halt due to old man virus. So glad you could follow through with your back garden refresh. It is lovely and your choice of flower and vine, will be even more beautiful when fully grown.
