How to Enjoy Small Holiday Moments. Today I’m sharing a small holiday moment and a favorite spot we enjoy here at FrenchGardenHouse. The holidays are so busy, that in order to soak in all the calm and bright, I like to create little areas of holiday magic at home.
WELCOME TO MONDAY MORNING BLOOMS.
For December, Mary, Pam and I are celebrating the holidays! Thank you so much for joining us, at the end of this post I’ll share their links.
My designer friends call holiday vignettes or styled spaces ‘moments’…so I’m sharing one of the little ‘moments’ I created here at home this season in front of the fireplace. And of course there is another definition of holiday ‘moments’ – the kind where you take a breath and enjoy the season.
This is such a busy time for all of us, isn’t it? I hope you are finding ways to thoroughly enjoy yourself, and you’re soaking in all the delights of the holiday season. One way I do that is by taking a break by the fireplace to drink a cup of coffee or tea, enjoying a seasonal ‘moment’ and just sitting .
It doesn’t have to be a huge chunk of time, it could be only 10=15 minutes. The key is to really be present in that moment, and concentrate on the beauty of your home, perhaps your holiday decorations. I leave my phone in another room during this time so I’m not distracted!
This area by the fire is the perfect place for me to read to one of our little people, we have a fairly large collection of Christmas books that I display in a basket under the tree for them to look through. I’ve collected Christmas books since our own girls were young, and they delight in sharing their favorites with their own Christmas.
This one, St. Nicholas Circle by Thomas Kincade has such lovely illustrations of Christmas long ago.
I decorated our tree and mantel this year with oversized green satin ribbons, that are really satin table runners bought in-expensively online. I’m not done decorating yet, and I think I’ll tie huge bows on the two front door wreaths with those runners, too.
There is no better time than Christmas
to open our hearts with gratefulness
and to appreciate the people in our lives
as the gifts they are to us.

I love creating little holiday flower arrangements for areas around our house. This one is nestled in a vintage hotel coffee pot. The flowers are roses from our garden, our icebergs bloom almost year round, the red rose is left over from last week’s bouquet, and I cut some bright green cypress and a holly clipping from the back garden.
I hope you create little Christmas ‘moments’….both the visual ones and the restful times you take for yourself ones.
We’re flying back from our Seattle family today, where we spent a most memorable and wonderful time with our family for Thanksgiving.

Merry December Lidy! I agree that it’s important to take the time to stop and smell the roses, especially during the hustle and bustle of the holidays. A pretty vignette and setting with your sweet Thomas Kincade book! Love your look back to previous Christmas moments too! I hope you had a wonderful time over Thanksgiving with your family. As always, it’s a treat to join you for some flower therapy. Happy Monday 🎄❤️
Merry December, Lidy. You created a lovely moment to sit by the fire and take in the glory of the season. I love the idea of children’s books nestled under the tree for little ones to pick up and enjoy. I love reading to my grandchildren. The oversized green satin ribbon is just beautiful. The vintage hotel coffee pot makes a lovely vessel for your garden roses. How wonderful to still have blooms in your garden at this time of year. I know you have enjoyed time with your family over the Thanksgiving holiday and wishing you safe travels back home. It was fun looking back on Christmases past.
It is always a treat to join you for flower therapy and Monday Morning Blooms!
Lidy, what a gorgeous ‘moment’ you’ve created! Flowers from your garden this time of year create a bit of garden envy, as we just had our first hard frost over the weekend. The arrangement is so pretty in the hotel pitcher, and the use of the those fluid green runners as ribbon are stunning! With only a glimpse of your tree, you leave me wanting to see more!
Merry December to you!
