Falling for Autumn’s Delights Table

Celebrate Autumn by setting a Falling for Autumn’s Delights Table with the colors of fall and French antiques that reflect the spirit of the season.

Antique French urn with fall flowers

Welcome to Monday Morning Blooms!

For our first floral Monday in fall we are honored to welcome back our friend Shannon of Belle Bleu Interiors.

I’ll share Shannon’s, and Mary’s and Pam’s links on the bottom of this post so you won’t miss their inspiration.

Creating a beautiful table setting is a delightful way to celebrate the changing of the season. Autumn has so many charms, and a table designed with the colors of fall and French antiques reflect the spirit of the season.

My grandmother set her table every single day, for every meal! I have so many memories of sitting at her table set with her dishes, her ‘every day’ silver and flowers. She insisted on saying grace before every meal, and it’s something we’ve carried through at our own home.

Set a beautiful French Country table for fall

I simplify {grandmama had a daily maid and a live-in maid!} I set the table with a runner and a floral centerpiece that I keep that way, just changing the dishes for meals.

Our latest shipment of antique French dishes arrived a while ago, and the colors are perfect for an autumn delights table.

The plate stack begins with an antique French shallow plate for a favorite fall soup. The deep red border of garlands, roses and ribbon swags add rich color to the table, and echo the colors of the floral centerpiece.

I arranged deep red wine colored mums, bright green hydrangeas, those fluffy bright green dianthus, ‘Golem’ Carnations and eucalyptus in a heavy antique French urn with a few fading lavender roses and some spiky branches from the garden.

This urn is heavy, really heavy. I fell head-over-heels in love with it at a recent market, I mean it has griffin handles, and a quiver with arrows! Despite Mr. FGH muttering under his breath that it weighs a ton as he carried it to the truck – I bought it knowing that I would never find another!

This vintage wood tray makes the perfect backdrop for the urn, and it keeps the antique stone fruits and petite copper molds in line.

Vintage flatware with mis-matched bakelite handles in autumn colors are a perfect match for this casual fall table. These antique French plates have a deep red transfer design of griffins to complement the griffin handles on the urn.

l tied a length of our red velvet ribbon around each napkin and topped each with the vintage flatware. Or do you like it better topped with our new Autumn Delights Place Cards?

An antique French sauciere is waiting for the second course when it will be filled with a sauce.

Thank you so much for your visit!

  2. Good Morning Lidy! Your antique French plates are beauties as is your sauciere to pair with your vibrant magenta mums and floral arrangement. I’m chuckling over Mr. FGH complaining about carrying your heavy handsome urn 😉 Love the warmth of the bakelite flatware and sweet Autumn Delights Place Cards at your table. As always it’s a treat to share blooms with you on these Mondays. Happy September and Labor Day! 🍂🍁🧡

  3. Good morning, Lidy. I enjoy reading stories about your grandmother. Setting a beautiful table everyday is a gift of love to your family. The antique French shallow plates are so lovely. They definitely add rich color to your table. The floral centerpiece is stunning with the colors of hydrangeas, dianthus, and mums. I also included the fluffy green dianthus in my arrangement. The heavy urn is a beauty! Vintage flatware, red velvet ribbon, and Autumn Delight place cards add loads of charm to your autumn table. I love all of the quotes about my favorite season.

It is always a pleasure to join you for Monday Morning Blooms. Happy September and Labor Day!

    1. Good morning Pam, and happy September! I agree, setting a beautiful table every day is a gift- a very loving one. I love those fluffy dianthus, there is something ‘fun’ about the, isn’t there?! It’s a true blessing to reach across states with you for our beloved Monday Morning Blooms!

  4. Lidy, such a beautiful assortment of finds among your gorgeously set table! Those place cards are so sweet. I love the ribbon either way, and the colors of rust with deep red really work for a fall table. The florals in that urn are the star! And let’s not forget to mention those adorable copper molds. Oh my! Happy September!

    1. Happy September dear Rita! I wish I could have you at my table, we could drink tea, apple cider or pumpkin lattes and talk about everything- family, friends and of course, antiques! Xo

  5. Your table is stunning…every little detail from the frayed ribbon to the vintage wooden tray makes it lovely! The little molds are so sweet, and your floral arrangement is colorful and perfect for fall.

    1. Thank you Ricki, I love having you visit. I love adding funny little quirky antique things to tables,
like these copper molds. They give every guest something to talk about or guess what they were used for. Wishing you a blessed and glorious autumn!

Oh Lidy, this is all so absolutely breathtaking! There are so many pretties on your table that I don’t know where to start. You know I adore anything French Country, and this entire setting makes my heart sing. Your floral arrangement is gorgeous and makes the perfect September welcome. The urn is stunning and is such a lovely vessel for your arrangement. I can see why you had to have it. The red floral china is so pretty and perfect for an autumn table. It was such a treat to have a virtual seat at this beautiful table, sweet friend! Happy Labor Day!

    1. Shannon, thank you so much for joining us today for our Autumn Monday Morning Blooms! You and I are French Country girls, and nothing shows off French Country style as beautiful as the warm colors of fall. Wishing you a gorgeous Autumn!

The urn is a one of a kind find. How old is it? It’s the perfect vase for your antique tableware. I love reading about your grandmother. I wish I had one maid and she had two. You were so blessed to have grown up under her tutelage. Such wonderful memories.

    1. Alice, the urn is at least from the mid to late 1800’s, it is always a guess what date exactly, unless it has foundry marks which this one doesn’t. It’s sheer weight and complexity of design, plus how beautifully it was cast definitely place it in the 19th century.

Ha, I wish I had one maid too! My grandparents did live in a huge house, and my grandmother still did a lot of things herself such as food shopping, making three meals a day etc. but it was a luxury to have help, and after surviving raising 6 children in the midst of WWII I am sure she was grateful every day!

  8. Lidy, a beautiful table to welcome autumn. The French antique plates are so pretty with your Bakelite flatware. Love the rich jewel tones of your pretty flower arrangement in that gorgeous French antique urn. The tied ribbon is a lovely touch, either way is perfect, especially with your autumn delight place cards. always a pleasure to visit. Happy Labor Day.

  9. Your table is lovely Lidy, with the colors hinting to fall. It is casually elegant with the velvet ribbon tied napkins and Autumn Delights table cards. I hope you gave Mr. FGH a delicious meal after he lugged the urn for you! The flower arrangement is beautiful. I love the antique French shallow plates for a bowl of comforting fall soup…I hope you have a wonderful Fall!

    1. Jenna, I did give him a delicious breakfast anfter all that lugging. (the market was early, we found a great French bakery that served breakfast!)Happy fall wishes for you, Jenna, I hope it’s a beautiful one!

  10. Lidy, the minute I spied that urn, my heart did a flip. It is gorgeous! How special to come across this piece, and kudos to Mr. FGH for carrying it to the truck. It’s perfect for your fall bouquet. You and Mary were on the same thought process with your urns, and now you two have me pulling out an urn here to fill with flowers, though I don’t own any as special as either of the ones you two used. As always, you inspire with your plate stacks and pretty table, Lidy. Thank you! Happy Autumn!

    1. Sarah,I can only imagine the beauty you will create at home with your own urn! Wishing you a glorious and blessed Autumn, dear friend! Xo Lidy

That was a beautiful post, Autumn (your Fall) is spectacular with it’s golden hues. We grew up saying “grace” before each meal and we/our family still do this. We are enjoying a delightful warm start to Spring down here in the southern hemisphere, after experiencing the wettest winter since 1960. God is good all the time.

    1. Noreen, thanks so much for your visit! So happy you enjoyed this post {though out of season for you!} and wishing you a beautiful and blessed Spring. Lidy
