Vintage Paper Doll Book French Dolls and Costumes

Vintage Paper Doll Book French Dolls and Costumes, a charming reprint of full color little girls, front and back from a French museum's collection of 19th century paper dolls. Each of the eight pages is of heavier card stock, the covers are paper {the opposite of most paper doll books} What is so wonderful is that all of the girls, and all of their costumes, are pictured front and back. The tabs on the front of each outfit can be folded over to hold the rear views. In very good vintage condition, these little books were made especially for B. Schackman of New York.

The shop, which began in the 1880's with a pushcart, was a small no-frills card and toy store at Fifth Avenue and 16th Street, which was filled with unusual and charming paper goods and small toys. This little book must have been commissioned by them, then printed in glossy full color lithography in Japan. I love these images, imagine them framed and hung all together in a little girls room, or your dressing room. The pages are in good condition, they have a cream background as the antique originals would have.
