Pair of 19th Century French Red Tole Chestnut Urns
Details
These red tole chestnut urns bring a cheerful pop of color and history to your home. Made in 19th century France, they were originally used to hold and serve warm chestnuts. In a deep red color with gold gilt accents, they feature hand painted sea scenes and lion head handles on either side and artichoke finials on top of the lids. The reverse sides have beautifully painted quivers and laurel branches in gold. These elegant urns once adorned the mantel or console of a refined French home, reflecting the timeless artistry and craftsmanship of the 1800s. Rare to find with this much paint still on them, these were well loved and taken care of by the families who have owned them.
Each urn has a domed, removable lid with a gilt finial, slender neck, and beautifully shaped body resting on an round footed base. The soft, timeworn painted surface bears the perfect patina of age, with gentle wear that only adds to their charm. Rich tones and intricate details create a sense of old-world elegance, making this pair a rare and decorative addition to your fine interior. Signed France on the bottom of one. Display them on a mantel, sideboard, or console table to bring an authentic touch of 19th-century French grace to your décor. Beautifully aged patina with expected wear to paint and gilding; lids fit well and display beautifully.
