This grand 19th-century Scottish silver-plated meat dome brings a wonderful sense of occasion to your home. Generously proportioned and beautifully shaped, it has an ornate handle, a graceful gadrooned edge and a beautifully engraved heraldic crest of the Arbuthnot family that gives it an unmistakable sense of history.

The Arbuthnot family crest gives this piece an especially personal history, while its timeworn silver patina reminds us that it once graced a well-loved dining table. Today, it could cover a roast when friends gather for dinner, or become a beautiful decorative accent on a hall table, sideboard or kitchen island. There are dents and marks from age and use, which add to its character. A lovely piece, not perfect, but rich in the history of the Scottish Isles. Please only make this dome yours if you can appreciate its timeworn patina and live happily with the several dents, all shown in the photographs.

Originally created for an important Scottish estate, this dome would have presided over formal dinners and grand occasions. It bears the peacock’s head and the motto “Innocent and True,” associated with the historic Arbuthnot clan.

The Arbuthnot family has held its ancestral lands for more than twenty-four generations, including the present Viscount. For a collector, that connection makes this more than a beautiful piece of antique silver—it offers a tangible link to one of Scotland’s historic families and the traditions of its country estates.
