Antique silver-plated chocolate pot with a lovely baluster-shaped body, elegant feet, a solid turned wood side handle and a beautifully beaded lid topped with a simple finial. It's the unusual heart-shaped detail where the handle meets the pot that first caught my eye. It is such a sweet little detail, and one you don't often see on these old chocolate pots.
This pot was clearly used and loved, having served hot chocolate to the same family for generations. The lid hinge has been repaired, with small areas where the copper base shows through at the heart-shaped handle fitting, the spout and the back of the hinge. The wooden handle has a tiny bit of movement after more than a century, but it is firmly attached. I think these signs of a well-loved life are part of its appeal.
