This antique Art Nouveau serving basket brings an elegant touch to the table with its graceful, flowing lines and beautifully detailed openwork. Made by the Meriden Silver Plate Co., it has a raised foot and curved swing handle that give the basket an especially lovely presence.
Fill it with warm rolls for Sunday dinner, arrange fresh fruit inside for the breakfast table, or use it to serve a favorite cake or sweets when friends come for lunch. The softly aged silver blends beautifully with your china, crystal and collected pieces, adding another layer of history and beauty to the table. When not in use, its graceful form is lovely left on a dining room or kitchen table.
Not completely perfect, one of the lattice pieces has a bend,{that new upstairs girl dropped the basket long ago!} and a small loss has occurred there. Please only adopt her if you can live with her past stories, un-trained help and all. Hallmarked: Meriden silver plate Co No 2233. Pieces from the true Art Nouveau period are increasingly difficult to find, especially in forms this expressive and well-balanced, where the movement of the metal itself feels almost natural.
