Antique Art Nouveau Silver Plated Swing Handle Serving Basket

An exquisite antique silver plated Art Nouveau serving basket, raised on a graceful footed base with a flowing, organic form that beautifully captures the spirit of the late 1800's–early 1900's design period. The swing handle lifts gently from the openwork body, giving it both elegance and ease for serving or display. You can bring her to your table when you are serving warm rolls, fruit, cookies, or cake—she makes even simple moments feel a little more considered, a little more beautiful.

Not completely perfect, one of the lattice pieces has a bend,{that new upstairs girl dropped the basket long ago!} and a small loss has occurred there. Please only adopt her if you can live with her past stories, un-trained help and all. Hallmarked: Meriden silver plate Co No 2233. Pieces from the true Art Nouveau period are increasingly difficult to find, especially in forms this expressive and well-balanced, where the movement of the metal itself feels almost natural.

  • Measures 10" x 9" x 10"h.

Collector's Note

A beautiful survivor from the Art Nouveau period, valued for its graceful movement and sculptural form. Pieces like this are increasingly difficult to find with their original character intact, especially those that still carry such expressive, flowing design.
