Antique Pair of Hanging Hand Carved Wood Putti, Angels

A truly captivating pair of antique hanging putti, or angels, masterfully hand-carved in the exuberant Italian Baroque style. Dating to the late 18th century, these sculptural figures embody a sense of celestial drama and movement, ready to bestow timeless European elegance upon your home.

Each putto is rendered from solid wood with exceptional artistry, captured in a dynamic, buoyant pose as if floating in mid-air. The carver’s skill is evident in the fine details—from the delicate individual feathers of their outstretched wings to the softly modeled limbs and the intricate curls of their hair. Their cherubic faces, with gentle, serene expressions, are beautifully articulated and full of life. Presented as a complementary pair, they create a wonderful sense of symmetry and balance. Complete with the original metal hooks that were used to hang these on the top of the altar in a church, these two are of fine quality and aesthetically beautiful.

They are perfect for creating a dramatic focal point when hung flanking a doorway, a significant painting, or a grand mirror. A rare find, with their deep wood finish. In good condition, although not perfect, both are missing little fingers and little bits of the feathers, which is to be expected of pieces of this age. They can hook over a mirror or large painting and will enhance any collection.
