This beautiful antique majolica bowl is a wonderful example of the exuberant color and botanical decoration that make 19th-century majolica so irresistible. The wide border glows in a beautiful aqua-green, decorated with leaves, tiny flowers, and a winding vine, while the center is finished in a warm French gold and adorned with three green and pink leaves and little berries. This bowl makes it easy to see why everyone still falls in love with majolica.
Heavy and wonderfully substantial, this is an unmarked early piece with a hand-sponged, mottled finish on the underside. Its generous size makes it especially lovely displayed on a table, sideboard, or kitchen dresser, where the color and botanical decoration can really shine. There are a few tiny chips to the underside of the rim, noted for accuracy and consistent with its age. A beautiful piece for your collection of antique majolica.
