A Lady’s Writing Companion — Antique Gold-Filled Chatelaine Pencil Necklace

A little antique writing pencil worn as a necklace is such an intriguing idea. This finely made 19th-century gold-filled chatelaine pencil is delicately engraved along the shaft and finished with a polished bloodstone end in a deep, rich green. Once worn from a lady’s chatelaine for jotting down notes and correspondence, it retains its original character. The top opens to reveal the original graphite chamber—a wonderful reminder that this beautiful little object was made to be useful as well as decorative.

What I find so charming is that you can still see exactly what this little pencil was made to do. The original sliding ring, the tiny graphite chamber, and the deep green bloodstone all make it feel wonderfully tangible and full of character. The 35" chain makes it lovely worn on its own or layered with other antique pendants.
