Stunning Antique English Birds Transferware Plate, made in 1885 in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England. A rarer to find small size, this aesthetic design features exotic birds, hummingbirds flutter around the rim. A larger bird flies to her nest, filled with two little eggs.
This Victorian aesthetic design is transfer printed in brown, the rim also features tropical flowers and ferns. Plates like this made their collectors marvel at the beauty of nature, especially in far away places. In good condition, one side does have slight aging on the front, more noticable on the back. Craquelure to the glaze as is to be expected for a plate this old. Display with your books about bird watching.
