Beautiful 19th Century Staffordshire Pink Ironstone Transfer Plate made by Livesley, Powell & Co, in Hanley, Staffordshire, England in 1853. Founded in 1851 as Livesley, Powell & Co. In 1860 Mr. Livesley left the business which was renamed Powell & Bishop in 1867. The plate has such a stunning lighter pink color, the central scene is of an abbey and river view, the ten sided plate has an ornate border with three cameo scenes around the perimeter.
This plate is 171 years old, it has been used and loved by generations. There are a few edge nicks as shown, and you can see knife and fork marks in the glaze if held to the light. This was not a show plate, it was used for meals by the families that have owned this before. Please only adopt her if you love history, patina and the grace of time. A lovely light color pink, you can see the cone marks from the kiln, which is what you want to see in early plates like this.
