19th Century Napoleon III Brass Gilded Adjustable French Porte Livre or Book Holder
Details
Purchased in France, this elegant 19th-century Napoleon III gilt-brass book stand dates to the 1860s and was made to hold a missal or prayer book. Its beautiful Gothic-inspired design is rich in detail, from the engraved cross and intricate floral brasswork to a Pax micro-mosaic medallion that gives this an especially intriguing decorative touch. Four delicate scrolled feet complete the design, while the warm, aged gilding has the depth and character that make antique French objects so desirable.
The adjustable book support folds away when not in use, a thoughtful feature that reflects its original purpose. The ornate, adjustable book stand has a large engraved cross on the front, with intricate brass work with flower motifs, and four small scrolled feet. The large flat top has an adjustable support which folds away when not in use. The golden book holder is perfect to display your antique Bible or other beloved book on a desk in your library or study. Excellent condition with rich patina.
