Details
This exceptional 19th century French towel is a beautiful example of the handwoven linens once created for the home and treasured through generations. Woven of linen and hemp, it has the wonderful texture, strength, and uneven character that make antique textiles so special. Yarn-dyed madder red stripes accent both ends, the herringbone weave adds beautiful depth and detail to the natural fibers.

The hand stitched hems and organic variations in the weaving tell the story of a textile made by hand. Originally part of a treasured trousseau, this family linen heirloom has been lovingly preserved and carries the marks of its long history, including small “blue-ing” spots as shown. These subtle signs of age are part of its authenticity and charm.
