Monday Morning Blooms: Sunshine in a Vase

Golden sunflowers displayed in an antique French stoneware pitcher with a rustic French Country feeling

Good Monday morning, dear friends. This Monday we're celebrating one of our very favorite summer flowers — the sunflower. There is just something about their golden faces that brings a smile, don’t you think?

Welcome to Monday Morning Blooms

Pam, Mary and I are so happy to welcome back our good friend Sarah, from Hyacinths for the Soul. I'll share everyone's links at the bottom of this post so you can see every little bit of floral inspiration.

I've always believed that flowers have a way of making a home feel more welcoming. A simple bouquet gathered from the garden, a few blooms tucked into a favorite antique vase, or a cheerful arrangement on the kitchen table can bring so much beauty to everyday moments.

As I write this, my FrenchGardenHouse is beginning to fill with all the beautiful things that signal the changing season. I'm photographing our autumn antique collections, and one of my favorite parts has been gathering antique French pottery and filling each piece with sunflowers.

There is something so happy about sunflowers, isn’t there? Their golden faces seem to bring a little bit of sunshine indoors, even on a cloudy day.

I love the way those warm colored and creamy glazes look with these cheerful blooms. They seem made for one another, bringing a little touch of late summer indoors while gently welcoming the first hints of autumn.

Styling these pieces always reminds me why I fell in love with antiques in the first place. They were never meant to sit on a shelf waiting for a special occasion.

An old French confit pot, a weathered pitcher, or a favorite pottery crock becomes even more beautiful when it is filled with flowers from the garden and enjoyed every day.

That's the kind of home I love—a home where beautiful old things are lived with, loved, and made part of everyday life.

Whenever I see sunflowers, I think of my grandparents' home in Europe. The watercolor I've shared here always brings those memories rushing back. Their home was filled with warmth, and flowers were simply part of everyday life.

My grandmother never waited for a special occasion to bring flowers inside. She would gather whatever was blooming in the garden and place it in a favorite vase or pitcher.

Those bouquets sat on the living room table, a windowsill, or beside the front door, quietly welcoming everyone who came to visit.

Looking back, I realize those simple moments taught me that beauty belongs in our everyday lives, not just on holidays or when company is coming.

One of the reasons I love antiques so much is that they make everyday moments feel special. A beautiful old plate is not meant to sit hidden away.

A treasured linen is not only for holidays. The things we collect should be enjoyed—with fresh flowers, family dinners, morning coffee, and all of the little moments that make a house feel like home.

That is what I hope FrenchGardenHouse always brings you: inspiration to surround yourself with things that have beauty, history, and meaning.

This Monday morning, I hope you'll gather a few flowers, find a favorite antique vessel, and bring a little sunshine into your home.

Sometimes it's the simplest things that become the moments we remember most. Wishing you a beautiful week ahead.

Lidy, I absolutely adore the way you have used antiques, vintage beautiful pieces for your styling today. Seeing them makes me think of home and the desire to go home again is very strong…altho, everything is long gone. We always had what many considered “old things” or “outdated furniture” but I was never ashamed as some of my friends were (those of us who didn’t have as much as the Joneses…if you know what I mean.). I treasured the things my mother had inherited from her mother and grandmother. I have passed many items down to my children and grandchildren. Of course I have to preface all this to say that your European pieces are outstanding…and come from a time before my ‘inheritance’ pieces. So lovely. Sunflowers are so perfect for arrangements and using your older French vases and French confit pot and dinnerware just shout HOME. The watercolor pic of your grandparents home is so nostalgic…I’m sure you miss those days there and all the memories that go with. My grandmother raised old vintage roses (they call them heirloom these days) and it seemed she always had some in a vase in her home. They were not the big hybrid tea roses of today but very small clusters of fragrant pink blooms that took my breath away. Thanks for taking me down Memory lane and forgive my late comment, please…my blog was having growing issues for lack of a better term. Hugs and Blessings 🥰❤️

Lidy, those antique treasures look superb with the sunflowers! The crock and transferware are aged to perfection. I love seeing your grandparents’ home too, and hearing their influence on your impeccable style today. Happy MMB (a little late, but still).

Lidy, your table is so pretty with sunflowers and your prized antiques. A lovely look into your gardens. Your grandmother was so special and you have inherited her talents. I love cutting flowers from the garden and bringing them inside to create a beautiful bouquet. Happy summer.

Lidy, your beautiful post makes me so happy! I love the view of your grandparents home and the thought of fresh flowers from her garden within. My own grandmother and my mother always did the same, fresh flowers from their gardens filled their homes. I think that is why I feel I must have fresh flowers in our own home. Fortunately fresh blooms are easily available these days when I shop the grocery store. I love how you used your French pottery pieces. Yes, our beautiful things should be lived with, enjoyed in our everyday. You do that so well! I admire your ease of gracious entertaining and have learned much from you.
Enjoy your day, dear friend. Thank you for including me as a guest for Monday Morning Blooms.

Good morning, Lidy. I love the warmth and charm of your setting. Antique pottery, dishes, etc. are perfect to use not just store away. Sunflowers bring out the warmth of the creamy glazes and definitely make a statement of the anticipated change of seasons. I love cutting flowers and bringing them indoors to enjoy. It is especially wonderful to cut from my garden and bring inside. Your grandmother was a great influence in the way you enjoy the everyday. My beloved Mother taught me the same. FrenchGardenHouse always inspires!

It is indeed a pleasure to join you for Monday Morning Blooms. Wishing you dear Lidy a delightful week and special moments!
