There's no getting around it. After the holidays, the winter blues can set in. You can beat the January blues by creating a flower arrangement to brighten your home.
Outside, it may be cold and grey, but inside, you can warm up your home with one simple addition : blooms! It has been scientifically proven that flowers have the ability to elevate your mood.
WELCOME TO MONDAY MORNING BLOOMS!
I'll be linking to my good friends Shirley and Mary at the bottom of this post. Our Pam has to miss this time, but she'll be back in February!
From boosting mood to lowering stress, studies over the years have found that flowers can help improve your mental health by triggering happy brain chemicals such as dopamine, serotonin and the love hormone, oxytocin. A fresh flower bunch lightens and brightens your home interior to reflect the fresh, new year.
And flowers are just simply a gift of beauty, aren't they? Flowers just can't help but brighten up our decor.
To bring some early year cheer to our newly remodeled master bedroom, I added some bright flowers to the antique French mantel. The larger antique Delft urn I inherited from my Mom is filled with faux branches, the bright green leaves whisper about the promise of spring.
I filled a French blue enamelware with the fresh flowers. No instructions needed, just snip, place in water, and done!
Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul. - Luther Burbank
{Luther Burbank was an American botanist, horticulturist and pioneer in agricultural science. He developed more than 800 strains and varieties of plants over his 55-year career, most notably the plumcot.}
I have to tell you that I was so so surprised to find a little clutch of pink peonies at the market. Here in California we may have access to more flowers at times than in other states, but peonies only come around in May.
Our market had just two sad looking little bundles left, the flower manager said they sold out in about ten minutes! I believe it..who doesn't love peonies?! Anyway I bought the almost fully bloomed peonies for half price, because...peonies. : )
If you are having a little tiny bit of the January blues, why not treat yourself to a beautiful bouquet of flowers? They always make you smile, don't they?
ps. If all else fails: Treat yourself a little more. A hot bath, giant chocolate bar and a Netflix binge can be just the thing to spark your joy!

Oh Lidy, this is absolutely beautiful! Your arrangement is both gorgeous and elegant. The vignette you created with the blue and white pieces creates such a stunning display. Happy Monday, sweet friend!!!
Lidy I love love to have fresh flowers at all times in my home, but now I know why! I didn’t realize that scientifically they make you feel good! I know they make me happy, I scooped up bright tulips a few days ago at TJs and have been smiling ever since! Your simple arrangement is elegant, I love the flowers you combined, and the vignette you created around them. You’re right, faux flowers are also a great way to spark things up, I must dig mine out…chocolate and a movie sounds good too! Have a wonderful week!
Ah, this is so beautiful Lidy!! Blue and peonies go together so well and they are lovely in your home.
A couple of years ago my husband and I spent a week in California. We went to the Luther Burbank home and gardens in Santa Rosa. It was fascinating to hear all that he was responsible for. His old home is a beauty too. :)
Peonies?!!!….wow, what a score!….the perfect bloom for your beautiful French Blue pitcher that I am having severe envy over!….Just love the beautiful combination of florals that you chose, from the Irises to one of my favs, the hydrangea….and talk about envy..I have always admired your magnificent mantel. The beautiful arrangement of flowers are such a wonderful addition to the many treasures you have displayed on the mantel. Another gorgeous Monday Morning Blooms presentation Lidy!…so great to be able to join my friends with the greatest of flower inspiration!….Have a great day Lidy!!! P.S. As a child, I remember reading books about Luther Burbank and being amazed at what a great man he was.
Lidy, I gasped when I spied your peonies…so stunning in your French blue enamelware pitcher! What a gorgeous arrangement with the iris, hydrangea, alstroemeria and seeded eucalyptus…do I spy some Queen Anne’s Lace too? Your mantel area in your master is the perfect spot for a to create a floral vignette and I love the pop of blue and white on your shelves. Thank you for the beauty this morning, the perfect way to beat the January blues. ?
