Welcome fall and create a floral arrangement incorporating apples. I know it's still hot {at least it is here!} But I'm falling for Autumn Elegance: A Fall Floral Centerpiece with Flowers & Apples.
As summer fades and the crisp air of autumn settles in, it's time to embrace the warm hues, rich textures, and natural abundance of the coming season. Autumn is my favorite season, and I'm ready for hosting cozy dinners around the table with family and friends, walks gathering leaves, and pumpkin patches.
And welcome to our Monday Morning Blooms - floral therapy.
Mary, Pam and I are excited to welcome our friend Jennifer of Celebrating Everyday Life.
This season, let nature’s fall bounty and your storied antiques come together to create a table-scape that celebrates the art of hospitality with the warmth of the season. If you are anything like me, you are r e a d y for autumn to start!
The heart of this autumn table is a floral centerpiece inspired by apple orchards. Growing up, each summer my aunts and uncles, my grandparents and I {My single mom stayed in the US to work!} went to our family's forest in The Netherlands, with an apple orchard. Heaven!
An Orchard Centerpiece : Floral and Apple Centerpiece
A floral arrangement like this isn't difficult.You can use any kind of container for your arrangement. I used an antique Limoges tureen this time.
Start by building your arrangement with your larger blooms, distributing them evenly. Then, tuck in the smaller flowers and filler. I did place the dahlias in after the alstroemerias because I wanted to make sure they would be shown off! {eek, I misspelled dahlias in the photo below...sorry!}
Skewer your apples on simple bamboo BBQ skewers, and tuck them in here and there. The chickenwire frame in the container will hold them firmly in place.
This neutral linen tablecloth provides a sophisticated backdrop without competing with the colors in the centerpiece.
These heirloom French antique napkins truly are a an amazing find! The monograms are hand embroidered, the fact that there is a crown over the monogram indicates that these were for a family of noble lineage. {They'll be on the online shop soon!}
Hand made lace add an extra touch of beauty! But what's really fabulous about these is that there is a floral bouquet on another corner, so you can use these two ways.
Hand painted antique plates with fish are the top layer of the plate stack. Perfect for serving a salad topped with shrimp, or toast points and salmon as a first course.
Setting the Table with Stories
The large antique transfer plate in autumn brown was made in Scotland in the mid 1800's, the ornate rim sets off the scalloped fish plate. {The brown plates will be on the website soon.}
To elevate your autumn gathering, layer your table with antiques that carry a sense of history. My grandmother's silver mixes happily with antique silver with mother of pearl handles.
The Meaning of Gathering
Incorporating antiques into your fall table is more than an aesthetic choice—it's a celebration of continuity and craftsmanship. Each plate, glass, and fork carries stories of past generations and meals shared. Combined with the beauty of flowers and seasonal fruit, your table is like a bridge between generations — where tradition and the present meet.
Whether you're hosting an intimate supper or a big harvest feast, let your fall table speak of timeless beauty with a nod to the past. The antique plates you fell in love with so much you want to pass them down to your kids, your grandmother's plates, your Mom's best salt cellar, your aunts best apple pie - all these combine to tell the story of the people you love and your family.
And remember: the beauty is not only in what you place on the table, but in how you make others feel when they sit around it.
Thank. you for your visit!

Good morning, Lidy. Your autumn arrangement in the antique Limoges tureen is stunning! The antique napkins are so gorgeous with a monogram on one corner and a floral bouquet on another corner. Hand-painted antique fish plates framed by the autumn brown transferware plate are ideal for an autumn table. How you make others feel that are around your table is by far the most important!
