A Garden Table Set for Two is one of the most restorative ways to enjoy summer at home. There is something wonderfully beautiful about setting a small table in the garden, even if only for two — antique plates, freshly gathered flowers, and crystal catching the afternoon light creates a scene that feels simple and unforgettable.
WELCOME TO MONDAY MORNING BLOOMS
This month Pam, Mary and I are joined by our friend Rita from Panoply.

Summer has so many beautiful afternoons like this, when setting a small table in the garden feels quick and effortless. Starting in the shade, although the sun moves so your table shifts from shade to dappled sunlight.

Not for an occasion. Not because guests are coming. Simply because the roses are opening, the afternoon is warm, and you suddenly remember how lovely it feels to slow down for an hour or two.
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24

One of my favorite summer tables begins with an old ironstone pitcher filled generously with garden flowers — cream blush roses, soft pink peonies, pale alstroemeria, and hellebores gathered with that slightly undone look that always feels more beautiful than anything overly arranged.

Is there anything more beautiful than peonies?

The table itself is simple. A vintage floral tablecloth sets the tone, you can never have too many flowers on a sunny summer garden day.
Majolica plates layered beneath delicate Copeland rose plates, each one adding softness and history to the setting.

Tall Val Saint Lambert goblets catch the light beautifully outdoors, especially filled with iced tea. There is something about crystal in the garden that feels wonderfully indulgent in the gentlest possible way.

As a little nod to my English friend joining me for iced tea in the garden, I added an antique Staffordshire figure — a playful, familiar touch for her that feels right at home on a summer afternoon outdoor table.

If you serve iced tea outside, you need a few sweet treats. Small fruit tarts and tea biscuits are arranged casually on an antique ironstone platter — the kind of piece that has likely seen generations of summer tables before yours.

This little table is the perfect place to sit with antique gardening books, browse new ideas for the garden, talk through new plantings, and decide which pots might need a fresh new look for this summer season.
This is the sort of entertaining I love most now.

Not elaborate. Not formal. Just thoughtful. Beautiful objects used exactly as they were meant to be used.

A garden table reminds you that luxury is often quieter than we imagine. It is the pleasure of real linen napkins fluttering in the breeze. Old porcelain layered beneath fresh flowers. Crystal sparkling in late afternoon sun. A table set with care, but so easy to pull together.
He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
Psalm 23:2–3

Perhaps that is the secret of a truly beautiful life — learning to create small moments worth lingering over.
This summer, I hope you set the table outside more often.
Fill the pitcher with whatever is blooming.
Bring out the antique plates you adore.
Serve iced tea in your prettiest glasses.
Light a candle as evening falls.

Lidy, your table for two is darling in your garden. There is something so romantic a table for two. The antique plates are so pretty along with your beautiful blooms. The pitcher is lovely filled with cream blush roses, soft pink peonies, alstroemeria, and hellebores. The specisl treats are so enticing, especially with a crystal glass filled with iced tea.
Good morning, Lidy. I enjoyed being a guest at your peaceful garden setting. You and Pam both used green majolica plates today. How sweet was that. Serendipity.
Your ironstone pitcher filled with your garden blooms is so romantic. The fragrance from the peonies has to be incredible. I loved seeing the little bit of forget-me-nots as well. The Copeland salad plates are lovely. I also like how you thought of your English guest and added the Staffordshire couple.
Your commentary was so charming, along with the beautiful Bible verses.
Thank you for having us.
Happy June, Lidy.

Yes indeed Lidy, real linen napkins, your very best silver and a gorgeous crystal glass for ice tea are the beginnings for the very best time in a garden drenched with the smell of Gods flowers indeed. And a good friend to share it with.
