Made in the 1940's, these mattress covers were traditionally part of a bride’s trousseau in France and  Europe, prized for their longevity and natural beauty. Made with an opening in the back closed with ties, they were meant to be stuffed with straw{!!} for the mattress. The combination of linen and flax fibers ensures both strength and breathability—qualities that made them staples of daily life and now make them highly collectible. Unwashed, this will get softer and softer the more you launder it. One area of a looser weave as shown.
