Rare 19th Century Groupe d'Enfants Transferware Plate Set of 6

Rare 19th Century Groupe d'Enfants Transfer-ware Plate with scenes of children and animals at play. Made in the late 1800's by Saint Amand et Hamage, of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux in northern France. Founded in 1718 by Pierre Fauquez, the factory produced faience. Part of what is often called a "children's dinner set", meant to be used in the nursery, the designs are decorative scenes of children with pet animals in the countryside, dogs, geese, goats and more. This highly collectible pattern is beloved by collectors, and you can see why.

The color is a Blue Green, on a cream white ground, the gloss makes them difficult to photograph, they are all the same color. The assiettes cruise or shallow bowls plates have scroll trim around the sides. Of note, several of the plates have an edge chip, slight discoloration and one has a fissure. Please only purchase this set if you love antiques used by children for over 125 years as found like I do. The fact that they were used by children is why they are so rare to find, often, these sets just did not survive! There are two assiettes with a little dog, two with chickens and chicks {one of those has the fissure}, one with a goat, and one with a duck. All have adorable children.
