Antique Sterling Silver Etched Crystal Decanter, a rare find, made in 1874 by German Silver Master Craftsmen of Jakob Stork & Sinsheimer. The base is impressed with the pseudo marks of Hanau Silver. The floral etching on the heavy crystal bottle is of the highest quality, stunning, an heirloom table accoutrement.
The bottle is housed in a sterling holder, with exceptional repousse work, featuring a lush courting scene of a couple strolling in the gardens, watching a gardener water a large rose bush with a watering can. The top of the decanter has the same courting couple as well as the gardener on the repousse rim. Carafes such as this were used to decant port or stronger alcoholic libations at the table for serving.
The stopper features a sterling silver over-mount, or collar, with a figural top of a cherub with one arm raised in salutation. In good antique condition, the cork fits well inside the carafe bottle, over the last 100 years the cork has changed shape somewhat {it's a miracle it's even still there!} so the top sits slightly off center, mentioned for accuracy but in no way detracts from the heirloom quality and beauty of this decanter.
