Antique Staffordshire Sheep Shearing Figure, 1835
Details
With her pretty blue hat, green dress, and little sheep nestled in her arms, this early Staffordshire shepherdess brings a touch of old English country life to your home. From the 1835, she has the appealing hand-painted colors and endearing pastoral subject that make early Staffordshire figures such a pleasure to discover. Imagine her on a bookshelf, tucked into a cabinet of English pottery, or adding a charming detail to a favorite vignette.
Wonderfully and masterfully modeled in the round, beautifully made in 1835 by James Dudson, Hanley, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England. With hand painted mixed enamel colors, this is rare to find in this lovely color way, with hand painted detailing on her skirt. Nearly two centuries old, she has restoration to one sheep’s ear and a small chip to the brim of her hat, both visible in the photographs. For those who appreciate the character of early English pottery, this is a delightful little figure with a story that reaches back to Victorian England.
