Details

This First Quality antique Meissen serving platter has the kind of hand-painted decoration that makes fine porcelain so appealing. Soft pink roses unfold across the luminous white porcelain, with delicate shading that gives the flowers a wonderfully natural appearance. Meissen porcelain painters begin by lightly sketching the design before building the decoration by hand, petal by petal and leaf by leaf. It takes years of training to master this work, and the care shows in the finished piece.

Dating to the Pfeiffer Era, 1924–1934, this platter bears the Meissen mark on the back and measures 13" x 10". It has a lovely presence on a dining room sideboard or buffet, or can be brought to the table when you're serving something special. A few small glaze irregularities are visible from certain angles, which we've taken into account in the price. It's an elegant piece of Meissen to enjoy in a home where beautiful things are meant to be lived with.

Collector’s Notes.

Max Adolf Pfeiffer led Meissen from 1924 to 1934, a period known for renewed attention to both traditional Meissen decoration and technical excellence. The crossed swords mark on the reverse identifies the manufactory, while the First Quality designation indicates that this piece was produced to Meissen's highest standard rather than being classified as a factory second.
