Lovely Antique Italian Micro Mosaic Floral Brooch, with a wonderful and unusual shape, and navy blue, red, green, aqua and white tiles. Made by the skilled Italian jewelry makers in the early 1900's, with intarsia mosaic work - the brooch is inlaid with glass tesserae from Murano, minuscule glass tubes, which imitate in miniature the glorious Byzantine mosaics of the Basilicas of Ravenna and Venice, Italy.
There is some wax showing in this earlier pin, later versions of this type of jewelry omitted the wax altogether, saving time, and lowering quality, as seen in the more recently produced pins. Marked on the back. A lovely addition to your jewelry collection.
