Antique Hotel Deshler Silver Plate Mustard Pot with Glass Liner & Spoon
Details
A wonderful piece of American hotel history, this antique Hotel Deshler silver plate mustard pot retains its original glass liner and includes a decorative spoon. The ornate openwork frame is beautifully embellished with griffins, scrolling foliage, and classical architectural details, while the hinged lid is topped with a charming finial. The distinctive “D” crest of the Hotel Deshler is displayed on the front, making this a particularly appealing example of antique hotel silver.
The Deshler Hotel opened in Columbus, Ohio, in 1916 and became one of the city’s celebrated luxury hotels. Reed & Barton produced silver for the hotel, and surviving examples are highly collectible. I especially love the combination of history and beauty in this little mustard pot—the original glass insert and a mustard spoon {same era but likely not the original} make it wonderfully complete. It would be beautiful displayed with your collection of antique hotel silver or brought to the table to serve mustard or another favorite condiment.
