Antique French Porcelain St Amand Sauce Boat Red Leaf Design
Details
A lovely example of French tableware from St. Amand, this antique porcelain sauce boat has the graceful shape that makes a table feel instantly more special. The soft ivory ground is decorated with a hand-painted red leaf motif along the scalloped rim and body, a warm touch against the creamy porcelain. I love the simple elegance of the form, with its curved spout and beautifully balanced handle. Perfect for serving sauce or gravy, it would also be lovely nestled among antique French dishes, silver and linen when setting a collected table.
St. Amand was one of France’s respected ceramic manufacturers, producing beautiful tableware in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This saucière has lovely age and patina from years of use, giving it the character that makes antique French tableware so appealing. There is expected wear, a small area of loss beneath the foot, and a small rough area inside the saucière that occurred during manufacture and is beneath the glaze. I can imagine it filled with a favorite sauce beside a roast chicken or simply displayed among your favorite French finds—an easy way to bring a little history and French charm to the everyday table.
