Antique French Paper Shell Encrusted Box

This antique French paper box is such a charming little treasure. Covered in delicate shellwork, it has the wonderfully unusual quality I always look for when I am searching for antiques: something familiar made completely its own through age, handwork, and imagination. The softly aged paper and tiny shells give it a lovely French character, and I especially love the contrast between its simple box shape and all the intricate shells including a tiny bit of coral covering it.

The box has been carefully taped at the corners over time, adding to its honest antique character. Inside, the red velvet-covered cardboard base is removable, so you can use the box as it is or take the insert out if you prefer. The paper bottom features Depose and France written on it in pencil.
