Antique French Country Style Stoneware Butter Crock No 2, a wonderful earlier pottery culinary crock, with a hand tooled top rim, tooled and hand applied shallow 'ear' handles. Crocks like this were used in country kitchens and cellars to store flour, butter, and other things that needed to be kept fairly cool. This salt glazed piece has a cobalt blue no. 2 hand painted on the front. The inside has a deep dark glaze.
A gem for so many reasons, use it for flowers, potted plants, to corral your collection of antique cooking utensils and more. In good antique condition, this one dates to the 19 th century and has the expected wear consistent with age and use. Stunning glaze and country texture will make you smile each time you see this.
