Early 20th Century German Bisque Bathing Beauty Half Doll Pincushion, French Lace Boudoir Doll Soft Blue
Details
More than a pincushion, this rare bathing beauty feels like a tiny stage of lace and ribbon from another era. Romantic, and full of character, this early 20th-century German bisque bathing beauty brings a quiet sense of story into your home. Likely made by the esteemed German workshop Galluba & Hofmann, she belongs to the bathing belle tradition—objects once found on dressing tables, now cherished as sculptural little fragments of boudoir history.
She is delicately formed with slender limbs and softly expressive hands, her painted face alive with coral lips, outlined blue eyes, and fine arched brows. A soft blue headband with feather gives her an unexpected lightness—somewhere between seaside charm and early flapper spirit. She rests on her original half-moon pincushion base, edged in French lace with soft cream and pale blue tones, finished with ribbon and small rose accents. It reads less like an object and more like a little stage set—romantic, slightly theatrical, and effortlessly decorative in your modern home.
In good antique condition, she shows gentle age consistent with time. The textile base has softened, with a darker age mark on one arm, all part of her authentic history. Please refer to photos for detail. A rare survivor with strong visual presence, she works beautifully in layered interiors—on a vanity, bookshelf, or cabinet display—where she brings a hint of old-world charm into a contemporary space. Complete bathing beauty pincushions with their original decorative bases are becoming increasingly scarce, particularly in palettes this soft and display-ready.
