There is something quietly captivating about this 19th century Staffordshire “Fortune Teller in a Bower” flatback figure group—it feels like a small moment from another time, meant to be discovered and lived with, not simply admired. Two ladies and a child gather beneath a leafy grapevine arch, arranged with the unmistakable Victorian love of storytelling and charm.
The beautifully modeled faces give each figure its own personality, with a delightful touch of color in the seated lady’s blue shoes—a small detail that invites a closer look. Dating to the 1860s, this substantial 12¼" flatback has wonderful presence, with a softly time-worn glaze that adds to its character. The base is titled “Fortune Teller,” enhancing the narrative appeal of this charming Staffordshire group.
In very good condition for its age, with only light nose rubs consistent with time. No chips or restorations noted. Two original vent holes remain at the back. A lovely piece for a collected home, this is an antique to pause over and enjoy.
