This beautiful 19th-century majolica plate is full of the exuberant botanical charm that makes antique majolica so collectible. The center is decorated with a large grape leaf, wild strawberries and grapes, surrounded by wonderfully dimensional leaves, vines, and small flowers. Rich chocolate brown, golden yellow, creamy ivory, soft green, and touches of pink give the plate a particularly lovely, slightly unexpected palette to this thickly potter plate.
I’ve always loved the way this plate brings a little bit of the garden into a home. Display it on a shelf with other pottery, prop it on a plate stand, or let it become part of a larger collection of antique plates. The raised decoration catches the light beautifully, giving this plate wonderful presence. The plate has a few small chips to the underside rim and some expected wear to the glaze consistent with its age. Please see the photos for details.
