Rare 19th Century French Religious Reliquary Display Cabinet

Exceptional hand crafted religious niche, or reliquary shrine cabinet was designed and fashioned with a upward sloping top, decorative moldings, and set in glass panels on the front door and sides. Rare to find, these mid 1800's display pieces are perfect to display your carved figure, Madonna, Crucifix or relic, a fabulous object for your collection of religious artifacts. Served for over a century in a Catholic church in a side niche, surrounded with candles for the devout to light during prayer.

Finely detailed carvings add to the design, hand turned corbels top each corner, the hand made cross on the top finishes this beautiful cabinet off to perfection. Free standing, embellished with gold painted greek key design. The inside has deep red velvet, you can still see a few threads where the saint or reliquary it encased in a cathedral niche was sewn on for safety. In good antique condition with the original glass, there is wear and patina in a pleasing manner.
