Imagine the elegant gowns this French couturier's mannequin has worn throughout her long working life. Made for Maison Deschildre, Paris et Amiens, she stands an impressive 65 inches tall, with a 25-inch waist, and was designed to model long evening gowns and wedding dresses with sweeping trains. Her original muslin covering, original labels, and wonderfully timeworn appearance tell the story of a working couture atelier more than a century ago. I love thinking about the beautiful dresses that would once have been fitted over her form, perhaps for a bride preparing for her wedding day or a woman dressing for a special evening in Paris.

For those of you who appreciate the romance of French fashion and the pleasure of finding antiques with a story all their own, she would be a memorable addition to a dressing room, bedroom, or private atelier. She is lovely displayed on her own, or with an antique gown or a length of treasured lace. This is an authentic working mannequin, not a pristine reproduction: her muslin shows discoloration and considerable wear, especially around the neck, and her arm coverings are made of heavy board. She was covered in green fabric at one time and has since been returned to muslin. Her original labels remain on the bottom.
