19th Century English Majolica Begonia Plate
Details
The beautiful colors on this antique Majolica plate are what first caught my eye. The begonia leaves are deeply molded and beautifully defined, with a glossy glaze that moves from emerald green to blush pink, soft yellow and touches of earthy brown.
Made in England in the 19th century, this 8¼" plate is lovely displayed on its own or mixed with other botanical Majolica. I especially love the way the raised leaves give the plate so much texture and dimension. The Victorians had such a wonderful way of bringing the beauty of nature into everyday objects. It is in very good antique condition with no chips, cracks or restoration, and has the usual kiln and stilt marks.
- Measures 8-1/4".
