Beautiful Antique Parian Bisque Porcelain Cherub Holding Horn Figurine, featuring a sweet cherub child with detailed life-like detailing. Parian ware is a type of porcelain produced to imitate carved marble, it could be cast and molded, so that classical figures were affordable by a larger clientele than actual hand carved marble figures. First made by the great companies of Sevres, Minton, Spode, Davenport, and others, the figures adorned dinner tables when dessert was served. They were meant to express the personality of the host, and to be wonderful conversation starters.
This charming winged cherub is lovely, seated on a tree stump, he carries a large horn. The figure is on a classical plinth base. In good antique condition, unsigned as is usual for figures of this particular era. Marked with a design number 5480.
