Exceptional Antique Shellwork Box, in wonderful condition, this 19th century French decorative box was made in the shape of a tiny little Dresser. Designed as a bon-bon box from a luxury candy store {at the seaside in France} and intended for later use as dollhouse furnishing or sewing box. The boxes in the shape of miniature furniture were produced in much smaller quantities, this is what makes them more collectable and rare to find.
This decorative piece features beautiful shells on the back, around the mirror, the top and the bottom. Antique French Shell Art Miniature Vanity Bonbon Box. A variety of shells were used to create the artwork, it’s rare to find these collectable boxes with all the shells intact. The box is covered with yellow marbled paper. Fantastic detailed design, the lid lifts for storage, lined in green. A fabulous addition to your collection of English and French candy containers, shell antiques and sailor’s valentines.
