Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Blue and White Transfer Pottery Plate, decorated in a medium blue palette in the “Rural Scenery” pattern, by James Wallace & Co. of Newcastle Pottery, Forth Banks, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland { 1838 – 1857 }.
The bucolic country scene depicts a village by a river, a castle on the hill, and cows and sheep grazing in the fields. two dismounted women talking to a kneeling fisherman beside two horses on the bank of a river, with cottages and a bridge in the background. Marked on the underside with the printed maker’s mark in underglaze blue Rural Scenery’ within a cartouche, and impressed mark. Fantastic condition.
