Early 19th Century Large Blue & White Meat Drainer with a Floral Border, made in the earlier part of the 1800’s in England, most likely Staffordshire. A wonderful and decorative platter drain that would be placed on a large platter for the excess juices of the fish or meat to drain into the platter below at the table. Unmarked, as many of the early 19th century pottery is. The design has a charming central view of shepherds with their sheep and goats, they are in a pasture overlooking a river scene. This design has a lot in common with the Spode patterns of the early 1800’s, with exotic buildings, sailboats and garden scenery.

The border is a floral and seaweed design. Over two hundred years old, there have been professional repairs to the edge, as shown in the last few photos. In the busy design of the border, it’s not too noticeable, it is most likely where the platter was fitted in a poorly constructed wire hanger for display for a century or more by the family. Unmarked. This is a lovely drainer, with gorgeous blue colors, still bright and shiny after more than  200 years later. A rare and exceptional addition to your collection.
