A magnificent late 18th century early 19th Century Madonna hand carved with exquisite detail in her face, she is exceptionally beautiful and refined. Bought in the south of France. Cleary hand carved by a master carver, it is extremely rare to find a madonna of this size, with this quality of carving and paint. Used in religious processions in Europe, pieces like this almost never survive in this condition. She is truly a beauty, very few processional Santos were carved with this level of skill in both carving and painting, most are much, much more simple and primitive.

This decorative Virgin Mary has her original paint, a beautiful elegant profile, and stunning expressive glass eyes. She is shown wearing a floral ornate crown made of French beaded flowers, over an antique metallic buillon lace net veil. She would have been dressed in a gown and jewelry, also, and held aloft over the heads of the faithful walking in the procession by means of a wooden pole. She is missing a portion of her left arm, but the fact that she even still has arms is a major coup for her, most pieces of this age are missing both arms, some even their very head. A stunning piece of devotional art to display in your home interior or business, she is of museum quality and a decorative heirloom you will be proud to leave to your heirs. She will bring joyful blessings to your home.
