Gorgeous decorative French Toleware Jardiniere, perhaps a waste basket, in a luscious deep Red with classical motifs in gilt and black. Absolutely stunning, the luscious French garland scrolls and classical motifs are expertly painted in metallic gold. The shape is divine, a four sided scallop, two sides have Lion head handles with a ring, the bottom has ball feet. {Imported from France by luxury department store Plummers of New York, which finally closed its doors in the mid-1900’s.} Signed Made in France on the bottom.
Rare to find with such amazing hand painting, one side features Diana, Goddess of the Hunt with a deer, the other side shows her quiver with arrows, decorated with roses and a swath of French ribbon. Use this to display a topiary, rolls of the French silk fabrics you hoard collect, or as a waste basket under your antique French desk. This is a fine quality addition to your collection. Delicious French Country Red has aging, abrasions consistent with usage throughout, very little rust and surface grime to interior, one of the feet is a little “indented” but nothing distracting.
