How adorable is this?  A sweet Kate Greenaway young lady, wearing her best bonnet and holding a gilded umbrella and wicker basket on her back.  This could be a match holder, or a toothpick holder, but the mirror is a bit of a mystery. Surely no self-respecting well brought up Victorian would look in that tiny mirror to clean their teeth at the table? Never mind, maybe this is a sewing accessory! Fill the basket with fill and a velvet top, voila, a pincushion. Or perhaps a holder for a pair of scissors and tape measure?

Maybe it is just a small “objet d’art” for a lady’s dressing table. Whatever it is, it is decorative and beyond charming. Everything about it says “Tufts Kate Greenaway” but there is no mark, maybe the bottom had a thin quadruple plated bottom that somehow got lost. The color by now is pretty much dark pewter like, with tiny little glints of silver. A decorative and lovely piece to add to your home or collection. Please only buy this if you love her as much as I do, perfectly imperfect.
