Antique French Hand Painted Pansies Ironstone Marriage Soup Tureen

Antique French Hand Painted Pansies Marriage Soup Tureen, with hand painted floral design featuring pansies on the top and bottom of the tureen.  Given as gifts to a bride and groom in France in the late 1800’s on their wedding day. Called “Souvenir des mes Noces” or “My Wedding Day Memories”, for brides to use for special occasions in their new home. This 19th century tureen is a great collectable size, charming and elegant and oh-so French.

It has gilt touches, and this one actually spells out “to the Bride” on the front in gilt lettering. It has a gorgeous scrolled handles with raised relief, and the elegant classic French design. A very pretty piece, this hand decorated piece spent a lifetime being treasured by the recipients in their French home. There is wear to the gold as is to be expected, it’s a beauty in all its faded glory.  The pansy on the bottom of the tureen has loss as shown, the one on the top is perfect. Most likely the bottom was used more often, or perhaps washed more. A thrilling find, especially for you if you adore pansies.
