Exceptionally beautiful 19th Century Madonna and Child Statue from a cathedral in France, made of the old molded plasterwork, painted and gilded by hand. Stunning in all their glory, the Holy Mother is holding Jesus, the Light of the World, in her arms. The Virgin has exquisite detail in her face, she is exceptionally beautiful and refined, this piece dates to 1820 – 1830.
This decorative statue has the original paint, a beautiful elegant profile, and everything we love in these antique relics of the Holy Mother. There is wear, and both Mary’s as well as the Christ child’s hand has been repaired as shown. One of the older figural religious pieces, part of the deaccession by the Catholic church in France in the 1940’s, she is just gorgeous. Holding a hand carved wooden scepter in her hand, the Virgin is crushing the head of the snake with her foot. Jesus is holding a long hand carved wooden cross, with a spear head.
