Whether you have a green thumb or simply love the beauty of flowers, you'll love walking through all the alleys of this charming market in the very heart of Paris, on the Ile de la Cité. Founded in 1808, the market was rebuilt in the 1920s after being leveled to build the Cité metro station.
It's original name was Marché aux Fleurs et aux Oiseaux Cité {Flower and Bird Market}, but it was renamed Marché aux fleurs Reine-Elizabeth-II when Queen Elizabeth II visited Paris in 2014 for the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
The flower market is a gem, and it's one of the favorite places local Parisians love to go for a stroll. With both covered and open-air areas, the market has beautiful cast iron pavilions covered with glass roofs to let in light.
The flower selection from 15 flower shops|vendors is amazing! It's a glorious display of seasonal flowers, plants, bushes, orchids and also gifts for the garden and flower vases etc.
Depending on the time of year you visit, the market is alive with all sorts of seasonal colors and scents. If you visit before 2025, on Sundays there is the 'bird' market, where all sorts of caged birds are available for sale.
