Fall is a wonderful & beautiful time of year
to invite friends and family over for an easy and delicious lunch or dinner.
Set a table that reflects the changing of the season, full of beautiful details.
Because all our beautiful fall linens are arriving on the daily
I’m sharing some tips for setting a beautiful table for this transitional time,
when it's not quite the time yet to add pumpkins to everything.
USE A DARKER COLOR PALETTE.
Choose a deeper, darker color palette now that summer is waning.
I love the deep dark colors of this tablecloth, with the red roses,
hydrangeas and cream and green accents
USE YOUR NICE ANTIQUE DISHES.
Nothing sets a pretty table like antique dishes, they have patina, history and stories to tell.
For this table setting, I mixed antique ironstone white dishes {which go with everything}
with smaller antique French story plates for the bread and butter.
ADD LITTLE CHARMING ACCENTS TO YOUR TABLETOP
Table accents up the charm quotient of your table and can be conversation starters.
These cast iron hand painted roosters and chickens
add French Country rustic charm at each place setting, with a few who have escaped the roost
marching around the center of the table.
USE PLACE CARDS.
Place cards at each setting make your guests feel special.
Write out each person's name, a favorite quote, or a scripture you love.
This is such an inexpensive way to show your guests you cherish their company!
TREAT YOUR GUESTS TO LINEN NAPKINS.
I know, paper is easier. But there is something special about real cloth napkins!
I have used real linen napkins for over 20 years now,
and honestly, I haven't looked back!
Here are some tips on how to care for your linens, antique and new >
COLLECT SEASONAL FLATWARE.
Just a few extraordinary pieces will liven up your table!
This year, I found these exceptional steak knives for us to use on our fall and holiday tables,
made with real antlers {naturally shed}. They make a stunning statement!
Even if a meal isn't home cooked, it can be presented with creative flair
by using a tabletop that reflects what you love.
These days, with the abundance of ready-to-eat meals at stores such as Whole Foods Market,
Trader Joe's and services that deliver meals right to your door,
it's simpler than ever to entertain at home.
MAKE THE MEAL SIMPLE.
Don't know what to serve? Might I suggest S O U P?
It's my favorite for this time of year, serve with salad, warm bread, and a {bought} dessert.
If you google "FrenchGardenHouse Soup" you will find all the soup recipes
I have listed and you can choose one or more.
BON APPETIT!

Thank you so much for leaving a comment…oh how I wish we had more of the Poulets!
I am right there with you in spirit, Suzie, and will lift up your daughter in prayer as she undergoes treatment. Surrounded by people who love her, and with her mighty spirit, she will battle this invasive thing and return to her life as normal!
Wishing you strength during this time, friend.

Dear Lidy ~
The Poulets are just darling; I’m sorry that you are sold out. Should you
receive any more, I will buy a set for my daughter. She is going through a
rough time having been diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma just last
Thursday. We all are waiting for a surgery date. She is small in stature
but mighty in spirit and I know she will land on her feet!
Thanks for keeping your eyes at the ready for me.
Gratefully ~

So beautiful and inspiring! I want to start adding some touches of Fall, but haven’t made the plunge yet. With temperatures in the upper nineties, it’s hard for me to do it. I did set a beautiful table last night and made soup for our company though. Love your blog. Blessings

Lidy, your table is gorgeous and my goodness do I ever love the tablecloth. It would be a marvelous treat to be a guest at your table. A memory one wouldn’t forget. Happy September to you, Lidy. ?

Lidy, You set the bar high. I love the table cloth with the black background, it speaks my language! I just decorated my dining room table and I used small white birdies mingling in the garland with tiny twinkle lights, candles and crystal. I too like to use place cards, then no one has to wonder where to sit. Beautiful table. Thanks

Your table is beautiful, Lidy. I can see why anyone would want to gather around your table for a wonderful meal, good conversation and be in the loveliest of environments. I’m not ready for the full-fall yet. When I get home from the cottage I’ll pull out the copper and some things but the orange will have to wait a few weeks!
Thanks for stopping by Marmlelade Gypsy. I so appreciated your lovely comment!

Thank you Aice, I agree, I’m not quite ready for all that orange yet either. (Although I do love our California fall!)

Wow Lidy. Love the tablecloth and the table setting. I’m not ready for more orange than I can stand or the cold weather that follows. Stepping into Fall slowly is a great idea.
