LA SAINT-SYLVESTRE

LA SAINT-SYLVESTRE
The French celebrate La Saint-Sylvestre, or New Year's Eve, in grand style! Most people celebrate with a grand feast, called Le Réveillon de la Saint-Sylvestre, with plenty of champagne, foie gras and other special delicacies. Some favorites on the menu also include regional fish dishes, special pate, and all things delicious and French. The party can be an elegant, intimate dinner at home with friends, or Un Soiree Dansante, a grand ball. It is a French custom to kiss underneath the mistletoe at midnight, and wish everyone a very Happy New Year! At midnight, in Paris, crowds of chic Parisians gather on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées or under the Eiffel Tower to celebrate the beginning of the New Year! The holiday season in France ends on January 6th, 3 Kings Day {l'´Epiphanie}, when the French typically eat "une galette des rois" - or King's Cake.

Bonne Année!

Thank you, Lidy, and Happy New Year to you! I’ve really enjoyed your posts this year. Sometimes a post has made me realize that I have something very special In a closet. Sometimes a post has made me think about the possibilities of an item(s) I have tucked away on a shelf. Thank you for reminding me to look for the treasures I may have inherited.
